Hyperhydrosis is a complex condition linked to a variety of Genetic, Hormonal, as well as other physiological and psychological conditions.

In all cases there is increased stimulation of the sweat glands via the nerve endings. Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxin, blocking the release of Acetylcholine at these nerve endings preventing the overstimulation of the sweat glands, which is why, many patients, with this condition,  choose to explore Botulinum Toxin Therapy, as an alternative to surgery.

It is performed under a topical anaesthetic and is a quick and well tolerated procedure. Most patients report only mild discomfort.

Botulinum Toxin is also available for excessive sweating of the hands and feet, but is rarely used due to the large volumes of toxin required, resulting in high treatment costs.

As with all treatments involving Botulinum Toxin, the effects of blocking the action of the nerves is temporary, duration of action is determined by the formation of new nerve connections, which is, in turn, largely controlled by the metabolism of each individual patient.
